Medications that reduce saliva flow include antidepressants, painkillers, and diuretics. Other medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes can also impact the body's natural defenses against microbes that cause oral diseases.

Avoid tobacco, as it hurts your oral health. Smoking increases your risk of tooth decay and gum disease, as well as a range of other health problems.
